The turning of a calendar is an arbitrary thing, and yet it does something useful: it invites us to lift our eyes from the day’s ticker and ask the older, better questions. What is this capital ultimately for? Whom does it serve? What would faithfulness look like in the year ahead?

What Endures

Markets will do in the coming year what they always do — surprise us. Resolutions to predict them are the surest to be broken. But a resolution to steward well, to stay close to the missions we serve, and to keep return and redemption in the same frame — that is a resolution worth keeping.

Resolve not to predict the year, but to steward it well.

Our prayer for the institutions in our care is a simple one: that their capital would do more than grow — that it would bless. Here’s to a year of faithful stewardship.
